Community honors Hurricane teen Will Washburn at baseball game [Video]

HURRICANE, W.Va. (WSAZ) – In a matter of weeks, seniors at high schools across our region will be walking across the stage at graduation ceremonies.

There will be heavy hearts in Hurricane, West Virginia where one young man will be noticeably absent.

Four years ago this month, 14 year old Will Washburn collapsed shooting hoops outside the family home and later died.

So, what happened Friday night on the Hurricane High School baseball field was really special, for Will’s family and everyone who knew him.

“We are very honored and humbled how this community and this school continues to honor and remember Will, and keep his memory alive through that,” said Will’s father, Brian Washburn. “This community’s really pulled together, and it means a lot for everybody to just keep his memory alive.”
