Community mourns beloved teacher, son killed in wreck [Video]

PIKE COUNTY, Ala. (WTVY) – The Pike County community is processing the sudden loss of a local schoolteacher and her son.

According to Brundidge Police Chief Sam C. Green, Heather Minton and her eight-year-old son were killed in a two-vehicle crash on Thursday night.

Minton taught science at Pike County High School and received Teacher of the Year honors in 2023.

Many took to social media to express their grief for Minton and her family.

“My heart breaks for all of the PCHS family and the students that leaned on you in and out of the classroom,” said Shelby Spaziani, a Pike County High School special education aide, in a post on her Facebook page. “The support that you and the boys showed every scholar and every athlete to wear purple and white was unmatched.”

Former student Cortney Nichole Buzzan said in a Facebook post, “To know Heather-Powell Minton was to love her. She didn’t have an ill bone …
