Construction worker dies after accident at Portland high school [Video]

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – A construction worker has died following an accident on the job at Portland’s Benson Polytechnic High School.

Portland Fire & Rescue says crews responded to an accident at the high school at about 3 p.m. last Thursday, May 30. The worker, identified by Andersen Construction as Samantha “Sam” Deschenes, was taken to the hospital. She died from her injuries on Saturday.

Andersen Construction says Deschenes had been working on the Benson Polytechnic High School project for the past year, and a member of Ironworkers Local 29 for the last three years.

In a statement, Andersen Construction said work was suspended after Deschenes’ death:

“Work was suspended in the interest of the health and well-being of our team members.

We are working with safety and health officials as part of the accident review.

Our primary focus is helping Sam’s family as well as providing mental health support …
