Self-Care Coach Reketta Brown shares ways to navigate stress.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Several stressors can impact our mental and physical health, whether it’s finances or maintaining a work-life balance.

“The cause of anxiety and stress for most people involves working,” Brown said. “We’re all working, and we all have different demands on our job,” Brown said. “Often that can lead to individuals feeling overwhelmed.”

Brown said some of the most common symptoms and reactions to stress include migraines, sadness, fatigue, and failing to produce at work.

“Some healthy ways to cope with stress include letting someone know when you are having a stressful day or feeling anxious about something,” Brown said. “It’s important to communicate with your supervisor and your manager to let them know that ‘Hey, I’m feeling a little off balance this week’. Or ‘Can I push a deadline back?’.  It’s important to advocate for yourself and use your voice in all of your environments.”
