CHICOPEE – A Hampden Superior Court judge upheld a City Council decision that stopped construction of a controversial truck stop and travel center on Burnett Road.

The City Council rejected applications from Pilot Travel Centers LLC for a service station license and a fuel storage permit 18 months ago. The vote halted the Tennessee-based company’s plan to build a travel center on 7.9 acres of land at 357 Burnett Road next to the Massachusetts Turnpike and Interstate-291 intersection.

The plans called for a 11,421-square-foot building, a 16-pump gas station for vehicles, a seven-position refueling area for tractor-trailer trucks, a Wendy’s restaurant and other features, such as a convenience store and showers for truckers.
