Lane County Sheriff’s Office hosted a joint crisis negotiation scenario
EUGENE, Ore. — The Lane County Sheriff’s Office held a real-world training scenario to better enhance their Crisis Negotiation Team’s skills on May 29. Closing off a building in Lane Community College, the scenario involved a barricaded suspect inside a building with multiple hostages.
Public Information Officer Sergeant Tim Wallace said their Crisis Negotiation Team every month does real-world training per their standard protocol. However, being able to use a building at a college does not happen often, making the training that much more realistic for the team.
“Once a month our crisis negotiation team trains on a number of skill sets and sometimes those trainings are pretty low key,” Wallace said. “Then a couple times a year we try to do a much-involved scenario training.”
