CYFD hosts local event for Child Abuse Prevention Month [Video]

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Child Youth and Families Department in New Mexico hosted an event Saturday to bring awareness to the issue and collaborate with different programs in the city. According to data from two years ago, the National Center for Fatality Review and Prevention said when looking at 84 unique child deaths in New Mexico, 80% of those deaths could have been prevented. This is one reason why hosting events like this is important to address the issue in New Mexico. At the event, there were booths from Goodwill, health services and education support. “The fact that a ton of families get to come out and meet providers that they didn’t even know were accessible to them.
