DAY 8 – BCI & Neurotechnology Spring School 2024

On Day 8 of the BCIS for Neurorehabilitation event in Vienna, attendees were treated to a comprehensive series of presentations and sessions aimed at leveraging brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) to aid in neurorehabilitation. The day kicked off at 9:00 AM with Christoph Guger from g.tec medical engineering GmbH discussing how BCIs can assist stroke patients and those with Multiple Sclerosis. Subsequent sessions covered a range of topics, including practical stroke therapy sessions, the integration of recoveriX into clinical routines worldwide, and bridging science with neurotechnology for neurological disorders.

Speakers delved into specific applications, such as lower limb stroke rehabilitation, brain assessment parameters for stroke, and offline analysis of EEG data using g.BSanalyze. The versatility of BCIs was highlighted with talks on BCI communication in conditions like ALS, stroke, and deep coma, as well as studies utilizing recoveriX with different control groups.

The day also featured discussions on cutting-edge research, including the electrophysiological markers of chronic pain in spinal cord stimulation and the decoding of brain signals for BCIs at the NTLab. Wrapping up the event, Rupert Ortner presented different applications for upper and lower limb therapy, showcasing the diverse potential of BCIs in rehabilitation. Overall, Day 8 provided valuable insights into the current state and future possibilities of BCIs in neurorehabilitation.
