DECATUR, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – It is springtime at one songbird rehabilitation center, which means one thing — chaos!

According to researchers, bird populations are declining in North America, including Georgia’s state bird, the Brown Thrasher.

Volunteers at Wild Nest Bird Rehab are working around the clock to nurse sick, injured, and abandoned birds back to health. The organization said it needs more manpower.

“Right now we are getting towards the height of baby season and so we need at least three people per shift,” said Nancy Eilen with Wild Nest Bird Rehab.

Over 1,500 birds come through the facility each year. Wild Nest Bird Rehab does what it can to nurse each songbird back to health. Donations fuel the process.

“Doing what we can for all of them that we can,” said Eilen.
