Detroit Red Wings sign Jack Campbell to bolster goalie depth [Video]

The Red Wings have fortified their goaltending depth on the first day of free agency. After signing All-Star Cam Talbot to a two-year deal, they’ve added fellow veteran Jack Campbell on a one-year, $775,000 contract.

A Michigan native, Campbell will likely serve as support for 21-year-old goalie Sebastian Cossa in Grand Rapids next season. He was recently bought out of his five-year, $25 million deal with the Oilers after two injury-marred seasons in Edmonton.

Campbell, 32, played in just five games for the Oilers last season, with an .873 save percentage. He spent the bulk of the year in the AHL, where he posted a .918 save percentage with Bakersfield. His last strong season in the NHL was two years ago with the Maple Leafs.

The Red Wings now have four goalies on the roster with NHL experience in Campbell, Talbot, Alex Lyon and Ville Husso. One of them will likley be moved before …
