Disaster declaration issued for Collin County after tornado [Video]

A disaster declaration has been issued for Collin County in response to the damage sustained throughout the area by an unconfirmed F3 tornado that struck Saturday night.

The declaration was made by Collin County Judge Chris Hill in response to the “extensive damage” caused in and near the city of Celina, according to a press release.

“I am heartbroken from the reports of devastation sustained by our friends and neighbors in Collin County last night,” Hill said in the release. “Our teams from Collin County, Celina, and partnering agencies worked throughout the night and will continue working throughout the day to clear the debris from roadways and to assess the damage to homes.”

The storm left 15,000 county residences without power due to downed power lines, and as of 11 a.m., more than 2,100 were still in the dark.
