The Disaster Management Act, 2005 is an Act of the Parliament of India thatlays down the legal framework for the management of disasters in India. The Actwas enacted in response to the need for a comprehensive legal framework tomanage disasters, which had become increasingly frequent and severe in India.

The Disaster Management Act, 2005 provides for the creation of a NationalDisaster Management Authority (NDMA) at the national level, and State DisasterManagement Authorities (SDMAs) at the state level.
