Distracted Driving Awareness Month kicks off [Video]

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. While distracted drivers can put anyone’s life at risk, truck driver Matt Nain has experienced some very close calls.

“I’ve been doing this for a little under four years, and I’ve already been hit twice by side mirrors in the back,” said Nain, who works for Luna’s Auto Service & Towing.

Life or death experiences at the hands of distracted drivers, like the ones Nain has had, are part of the reason why Julie Festerling co-founded the nonprofit Phones Down, Just Drive!

“Anyone who uses a roadway is at risk. Because there are so many drivers out there who either do not know that it’s against the law to be looking at their phone or manipulating it while driving,” Festerling said. “They either don’t know it’s the law, or they don’t care about the law.
