DMV schools plan for solar eclipse safety during dismissal [Video]

Monday’s eclipse is expected to be visible in our area from 2:04 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. when most students are being dismissed from school.

WASHINGTON — School districts across Maryland and Virginia are making sure students stay safe and informed ahead of Monday’s solar eclipse, which will take place during dismissal. The eclipse is expected to impact our area beginning around 2 p.m. and lasting through 4:30 p.m., with maximum solar coverage around 3:20 p.m. 

In Virginia, Arlington County Schools and Loudoun County Public Schools tell WUSA9 they will distribute protective glasses to students ahead of the eclipse.

“We are using this as a teachable opportunity, and we have shared resources across the division and community with teachers and families,” A spokesperson for Loudoun County Public Schools said. “Information was shared with all LCPS families earlier this week to include safety and educational tips.”
