DOTD talks navigating Highway 90 during hurricane evacuation [Video]

(KLFY) — Evacuation preparedness is a major priority with hurricane season upon us. Highway 90 is one of the main routes in Louisiana that many travelers take when evacuating the area, with a lot of construction going on. Deidra Druilhet with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said it is very important to prepare yourself for any scenario.

“Oftentimes there is going to be construction possibly going on a particular route that you may be utilizing for the evacuation process,” Druilhet said. “So that’s why we encourage people to get a game plan, know which routes you are going to take, leave as early as possible. If need be, go north.”

Druilhet said people should utilize the state resources they have available with MyDOTD For road updates and the 511 system, which displays open routes and closed routes for any scenario.
