Eastern Iowa amateur radio operators connect, teach importance of radios [Video]

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – People in Cedar Rapids got the chance to learn directly from amateur radio operators about what they do and how they help first responders during emergencies.

The Collins Amateur Radio Club which is made of current and former employees of Colleens Aerospace and the nonprofit Cedar Valley Amateur Radio wrapped up their annual 24-hour long Eastern Iowa Field Day on Sunday.

It was a part of a larger nationwide Field Day, which features over 4,000 clubs. The event helps connects these clubs from across the country.

People operating radios at this event also made contact with 2,000 other clubs from across the country.

Operators taught people about radio technology, history, and how amateur radio operators communicate with first responders and shelters in an emergency.
