Editorial: Celebrate Juneteenth with NBC5 [Video]

The following is an NBC5 Editorial featuring General Manager Ryan Rothstein speaking on behalf of the editorial board.Today is Juneteenth, the annual commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. It’s our newest federal holiday – but the earliest celebrations date back to 1866. We should not only reflect on the crucial moment in our history but amplify the significant contributions and cultural heritage of African Americans in our country and community. Recent recognition does not erase the past – but opportunities for education and awareness will only make our future stronger. We know the fight for equality is not over. But as the work continues – NBC5 hopes to elevate the diverse voices leading us into tomorrow.
