Elbow Hyperflexion Injury | Physical Therapy for Jiu-Jitsu | Phase 3 Power Training

This patient competes at a national and international level for Jiu-Jitsu. He sustained a left elbow hyperflexion (not hyperextension) injury when his elbows were flexed (elbows tucked), and his opponent shifted more of his weight to his left forearm as he attempted to escape. There was immediate pain, significant swelling, and a loss of range of motion (ROM) for elbow flexion and extension. He did not begin physical therapy for over a year following the injury, with a noticeable loss of full ROM for left elbow flexion and extension. Initially, physical therapy addressed restoring his left elbow ROM and basic strengthening for the left arm, including the shoulder girdle. His progress has been excellent, and he is currently in phase 3 rehab.

In this video, he is training a functional movement pattern involving shoulder extension and abduction, elbow extension, and wrist extension. The movement is dynamic and powerful, involving the entire body to generate as much power as possible.

THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER EXERCISE FROM ELBOW TRAUMA!
