Explosion in Derry, N.H. leaves 76-year-old woman dead, 11-year-old girl injured [Video]

A preliminary investigation indicated a tree fell due to the nor’ easter snowstorm that swept through New England earlier this week and struck two propane tanks on the backside of the house, causing a leak and the subsequent explosion, the division said.

The explosion and fire were reported around 11:40 a.m. Thursday. When firefighters first arrived at the scene, they found heavy flames coming from the single-family home, according to the division.

Firefighters located a resident, later identified as Percival, in the driveway. She was dead, the division said.

There were reports of a person still inside the home. Another resident, the girl, was in the house at the time of the explosion. She was taken to Parkland Medical Center in Derry and then transferred to a Boston area hospital for treatment, according to the division.
