JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM/Gray News) – A community in Mississippi is breathing a collective sigh of relief after no one was hurt Wednesday when a giant tree nearly split a school bus in half.
“It’s just a miracle,” Jones County School District Superintendent B.R. Jones. said. “We are so thankful no kids were on the bus.”
Jones said the bus driver had just dropped off the final child on his route five minutes before the crash.
“According to him, he was just going down the road at about 20 to 25 miles an hour, very slow, and he said all of a sudden, the bus just stopped,” Jones said. “Next thing he knows, he looks back in the rearview mirror, and there’s a tree laying across the center of the bus.”
