Fatal train accident involving 17-year-old teen on bicycle; Pacific Surfliner and COASTER service impacted [Video]

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — First responders and deputies responded to reports of a fatal train accident in San Diego Friday afternoon. It has been confirmed the victim was 17.

Deputies with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a fatal train vs pedestrian accident that happened in the University City/Sorrento Valley area at 12:34 p.m. Friday.

A spokesperson with the LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency told FOX 5/KUSI the accident involved a southbound Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train and a male minor riding a bicycle.

The accident happened at the intersection with Sorrento Valley Blvd and Sorrento Valley Road, near Roselle Street, at the end of I-805 in the City of San Diego.

The sheriff’s office said in an update Friday evening that witnesses at the scene told deputies three boys were riding their bicycles and stopped at the crossing arms to allow the northbound train to pass. After the northbound train passed, …
