A large fire damaged the Hilke’s Ice Company plant in Freeburg overnight.
The fire started around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. Employees discovered the fire while loading pallets of ice onto trucks, according to a news release from the Missouri Division of Fire Safety.
The fire at Hilke’s Ice Company was reported around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday and was still ongoing at 6 a.m.
Fire crews found flames and smoke coming through the roof along the structure’s south side, according to the release.
Responders requested a tanker task force and strike team, which led more than 15 fire departments to respond.
A tanker task force is a mutual aid request in which many fire districts provide tankers to help shuttle water to large-scale incidents.
The Iberia Rural Fire Protection District sent one tanker and two firefighters as part of the tanker task force, according to a Facebook post.
