Infuriating stories of disputes with insurers have emerged at an inquiry into the response to south-east Queensland’s February 2022 floods.
The federal inquiry is examining how insurance companies dealt with customers in the wake of the disaster and what more can be done to protect our suburbs.
Karl and Marie Platt’s home at Mount Glorious, north-west of Brisbane, was only recently gutted.
That’s because the leaks that were supposedly fixed after the initial downpour leaked again last year, spreading mould throughout their home.
“We still have an unliveable house. We have no ceilings, no walls in the house. The mould is now toxic,” Platt told an inquiry hearing today in the Moreton Bay region, which includes Mount Glorious, Caboolture, Narangba and many other flood-hit suburbs.
