PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – A former Franklin High School student and his parents are suing Portland Public Schools after they say his finger was mutilated during a woodshop class in 2022.
The family is also suing the woodshop teacher and the school nurse.
The lawsuit, which was filed in May, says the student was using a power tool called a “router” to carve a small piece of wood unsupervised after a brief demonstration from the teacher. Court documents say the router “grabbed his finger and mutilated, severed, and disfigured it.”
The lawsuit also claims the machine didn’t have a safety feature that could have prevented the injury.
