Former West Memphis firefighter dies in ambulance accident [Video]

The Jonesboro Fire Department broke the news that Northeast Arkansas lost a long time first responder, Mark Gibson, in the line of duty.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Jonesboro Fire Department (JFD) broke the news that Northeast Arkansas lost a long time first responder, Mark Gibson, in a line of duty accident.

The ambulance that former firefighter, Gibson, was riding in was struck head-on by another car on Aug. 9 in Lake City, Ark.

According to JFD, Gibson’s wife Cheri was the EMT driving the ambulance when they were hit.  She is currently hospitalized and recovering from her injuries.

Gibson, retired from the West Memphis Fire Department after serving for over 28 years. He also worked at Emerson Ambulance Service for 35 years.

JFD shared their appreciation for Gibson in a Facebook post saying, “his contribution to the fire service and emergency medicine in this area will be remembered for years …
