Georgetown KY Police Department dedicates officers to traffic safety patrol [Video]

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (FOX 56) — After a trend of traffic violations and help from local leaders, the Georgetown Police Department (GPD) put together a three-officer unit with a sergeant dedicated to enforcing safe driving.

No matter the size of the city, there’s bound to be traffic and drivers who may not always play it safe. That’s where the Georgetown police come in.

The department has dedicated a three-officer unit to patrol and make sure all drivers are following the rules of the road.

“A lot of our guys on patrol are really busy, going to call after call. Having some guys dedicated to running traffic and addressing the concerns of the community is a great opportunity for us,” Chris Perkins, traffic unit sergeant, said.

Whether it’s downtown or another highly traveled part of the city, the goal is to divide the team up into different parts, making sure all drivers are as safe …
