Georgia under state of emergency for Tropical Storm Debby [Video]

A Tropical Storm Watch and Storm Surge Watch have been issued for coastal Georgia from the Mouth of St. Marys River to Altamaha Sound.

ATLANTA — As Tropical Storm Debby strengthens, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency Sunday morning for the entire state.

The declaration is a precautionary measure for the safety and preparedness of all residents as the storm approaches, a news release said. A Tropical Storm Watch and Storm Surge Watch have been issued for coastal Georgia from the Mouth of St. Marys River to Altamaha Sound. 

Debby is expected to become a hurricane before landfall in the Florida big bend region, the release said.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, stock up on essential supplies and ensure they have a plan in place.
