GIFFORD, Ill. (WCIA) — No one is hurt following a fire in northeast Champaign County that was caused by Thursday night’s storms.

The fire happened near North Pointe Drive and County Road 2300 East. The homeowner told WCIA that they heard a boom during the storms and saw the home’s lights flicker. It was subsequently confirmed that lightning struck the home.

Smoke was present throughout the home but the flames were contained to the garage. There were three people and a dog inside at the home, but everyone got out okay. They said they’re thankful for the Gifford Fire Department’s response.

WCIA has reached out to the Gifford Fire Department to ask follow-up questions. We have not heard back yet.
