Glenburn man killed in retaining wall collapse at worksite [Video]

BROWNVILLE, Maine — A man from Glenburn was killed after a retaining wall collapsed onto him Tuesday afternoon at a construction worksite in Brownville. 

The Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office, Brownville Fire Department, and Three Rivers Ambulance Service responded to a report of a retaining wall collapse onto a worker around 2:45 p.m., according to a social media post from the sheriff’s office. 

Efforts to resuscitate the man were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead due to injuries suffered in the retaining wall collapse. 

The sheriff’s office identified the man as 67-year-old Stephen Lane of Glenburn. 

The Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office and Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m., the Town of Brownville said on Facebook that Railroad Avenue by the underpass just off Route 11 was closed to all traffic and pedestrians until further notice. Not long after, the post was updated stating one lane had reopened.
