Good Samaritan run over by his own truck after fleeing suspect steals it [Video]

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP/Gray News) – Family members say a good Samaritan is facing a long road to recovery after he was allegedly run over and critically injured by a man he was trying to help.

Richard Ortiz is in the hospital in critical condition after the Nebraska State Patrol says he was run over Saturday by his own pickup truck. The truck, which had a camper attached, was allegedly broken into and stolen by 32-year-old Abraham Pacheco as he fled from authorities, KNOP reports.

Family members say Richard Ortiz thought Pacheco was in an accident and needed help.

“My dad is a true good Samaritan who has always gone out of his way to help others in need. Unfortunately, his act of kindness has resulted in devastating consequences for him,” wrote a family member on a GoFundMe page set up to help with expenses.

Family members say Richard Ortiz was nearly scalped in the incident. …
