Goodhue County passes nuclear emergency simulation despite flooding | News [Video]

RED WING, Minn.- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) held a press Conference with the Minnesota Department of Homeland Security on Friday, June 28, to announce how Goodhue County did in a nuclear emergency simulation.

The simulation was run on Tuesday, June 25 at the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Facility in Welch.

The simulation included testing the responsiveness of staff at the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Facility, Goodhue County agencies, and off-site response teams in a simulated nuclear emergency.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission coordinated with the agencies in the simulation to monitor the communication between agencies when responding to a crisis. 

According to Jure Kutlesa, senior inspector with the commission’s 3rd district, the county and its neighbors passed with flying colors.
