Governor Mills establishes storm relief commission, business speaks to overcoming storms | Local News [Video]

STONINGTON — Governor Janet Mills signed an executive order on Tuesday, May 21st at the Stonington Lobster Co-Op. The executive order establishes the Infrastructure Rebuilding and Resilience Commission, a response to the series of disaster-level storms that have impacted Maine communities.

To begin Tuesday’s press conference, Stonington Town Manager Kathleen Billings stated her town as, “The lobster capital of Maine.”

“Seeing this place that I love, that we all love, a place that is so important to this region and to the whole state of Maine underwater,” said Governor Mills. “There’s simply no words that can fully capture the horror and the sadness that we all felt. Now is the time for us to take bold and urgent steps to protect the Maine that we all know and love.”

The Commission is co-chaired by Stonington’s Director of Economic and Community Development Linda Nelson, and Dan Tishman, a Principal and Chairman of Tishman Realty & Construction.
