Gun safety advocates participate in Emory Peace Walk [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – It’s Gun Violence Awareness Month and dozens of people spent their Saturday walking for peace and pushing for change.

Gun safety advocates, prevention specialists and the family members of victims walked in Emory Hillandale Hospital’s inaugural Peace Walk at the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve in DeKalb County.

Kim Williams’ son was paralyzed from the waist down in a shooting.

“Some kids tried to rob my son’s best friend,” she said. “In the time the assailant pulled the gun, my son saw an opportunity to try to grab the gun to save his best friend’s life. In that moment the assailant put all the bullets into my son, and my son was left for dead.”

Sharmaine Brown’s son died in a shooting in 2015.
