Gwinnett County father of 2 killed in South Florida crane accident, wife says [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A construction worker killed in a South Florida crane accident last Thursday was from Gwinnett County, according to his wife.

Jorge De La Torre, 27, was part of a crew working on a high-rise building in downtown Fort Lauderdale. He fell with a section of the crane when it came loose, fire department officials said.

De La Torre’s wife, Joselyn Farias, said he would often travel to Florida for work. But this time, she and their 2-year-old and 5-year-old children didn’t see him come home.

“Jorge, was a loving father, brother, son, and partner,” Farias wrote in an online fundraiser. “He was so loved by many, he never met a stranger, was so caring and so selfless.”
