Hallsville shelter reportedly closed during severe storm | Mid-Missouri News [Video]

HALLSVILLE — Parts of northern Boone County were battered by storms Thursday night that left large debris, broken windows and trees on the roofs of houses.

When that storm rolled in, some people never heard outdoor warning sirens. The Boone County Office of Emergency Management said Friday afternoon that a programming issue prevented some sirens from activating in northern Boone County. 

The office said the issue has been corrected and that the Boone County government is updating internal processes to ensure outdoor sirens work as intended.

One Hallsville family also said they weren’t able to access their city-designated storm shelter.

Nick Sweeney lives with his wife and two children in Hallsville and said a notification from the National Weather Service on his iPhone alerted him and his son to a tornado warning.
