Hartford parents push back against districts budget cuts [Video]

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – Hartford families are worried about how budget cuts will impact public education in the city.

Parents and students marched to the State Capitol Wednesday in hopes of raising awareness about their concerns.

Families want to see more help from the state and city.

They marched to the Capitol calling for more funding for Hartford Public Schools.

“Mostly, I’m worried about my classes,” said Kennianiz Irzarry, a junior at Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy.

Students and parents expressed concern about what these budget cuts mean for the future.

“You’re not going to be able to make the schools function for our kids with that level of cuts. It’s just not a possibility,” said Constanza Segovia, Hartford parent.

The district is slashing 387 positions. Resource teachers, social workers and alternative programming will be impacted.

“A school cannot function without people who are there to keep us mentally, physically and emotionally intact,” said Kebra-Nagast Takahashi, …
