Incarcerated Mobile County veterans enrolled in program to clear charges [Video]

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Mobile County is celebrating a milestone—the one-year anniversary of its revamped Veterans Treatment Court. Launched to support veterans dealing with legal issues, Mobile County Circuit Judge Michael Windom says the program has already made a significant impact, connecting with over 100 veterans in just its first year. Currently, there are 15 veterans actively participating with another 10 going through the application process.

“It’s all been it’s really been very positive,” Judge Windom shared. “It’s really uplifting to hear what the veterans say. Of course, we meet on Friday, and one, one guy put it he said, You know, there’s a lot of things we’d rather be doing on Friday, but this is probably more important than those other things.”

The program spans 14 months. Participants meet with mentors and receive treatment tailored to their needs, submit drug tests and go before Judge Windom every Friday.
