Injured eagle rebounds at Indiana wildlife rehab center [Video]

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A mature bald eagle found barely conscious this week by a couple jogging in Michigan City, Indiana appears to be on the mend.

The eagle was found Thursday near the Reynolds Creek Game Bird Habitat, partially submerged in the cold water of a ditch.

The bird was picked up by Nicole Harmon, director of the Humane Indiana Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Valparaiso, where the animal is receiving care.

Harmon suspects the eagle was knocked into the ditch by a car and went into shock. There was roadkill near where he was found.

The good news is, the eagle by Friday was bright and alert. Although he’s not out of the woods, Harmon is encouraged by his progress.

This marks the fifth injured eagle her organization has treated this year; two, unfortunately, didn’t make it. But the silver lining is that so many eagles suggests the population of the species is increasing, Harmon said.

By comparison, she’d only seen 13 eagles in the past …
