WESTERLY, R.I. (WJAR) – Some seniors in Rhode Island are experiencing a “senior” prom after a high school student came up with the big idea.

Roughly 120 residents at the Westerly Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center were ready to roll.

With balloons, corsages, food cake and entertainment, the evening marked a much-awaited event for many seniors, according to life enrichment and dementia care practitioner Gerry McVeigh.

“If we’re gonna do it, we’re gonna do it right, and you’re gonna go big or go home,” she said.

Many who attended the annual event say it keeps getting “better and better.”

Dressed to the 9′s, the annual “senior” prom is a complete community effort.

From donated dresses and hair styles courtesy of a high school cosmetology department.
