Jessamine County School Resource Officers train to keep students and staff safe from all threats [Video]

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — Law enforcement and the Jessamine County Schools work together to not only provide School Resource Officers to serve students but to also keep them safe at all costs.

While school halls are empty of students, school resource officers (SROs) have been training to make sure they’re ready for any situation. Thursday’s training at East Jessamine Middle School simulated an active shooter scenario.

“The probability of an active shooter happening is a low probability, but it’s not zero. The impact of something like that on our community would be huge, so that’s why we train,” Sam Wade, SRO, said.

While the situation wasn’t real, the sense of urgency was still there. The drill included after-action reviews, so everyone involved knew what went well, and what could be done better.

“Any time we can place our officers in a realistic training environment, it helps to enhance the value of that …
