Joint meeting addresses safety, capacity challenges within Dorchester Dist. Two [Video]

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – County leaders met with those in the town of Summerville and Dorchester School District Two on Tuesday to reflect on large growth in the area.

Dorchester County is one of the fastest growing in the state, prompting an all-day joint meeting to address the impacts development could have on school systems, traffic and infrastructure.

Dorchester District Two spoke about two safety concerns on the table. Board member Ashley Wimberly claims Green Wave Boulevard, which lines Summerville High School, has become a hazard to student drivers and pedestrians. Wimberly says the road seems it have never been built to handle large amounts of congestion.

“There are no lines on it, there’s no real posted speed limit, the road isn’t really completely finished on one side,” Wimberly says.

With the completion of Berlin G. Myers inching closer, it could jump the congestion in the area to thousands …
