July 4 holiday safety tips [Video]

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SC DNR) and South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) announced a partnership ahead of the busy July 4th holiday. Both departments are encouraging the Upstate to stay safe this holiday on the road and on the water. SC DNR will offer courtesy boating inspections during the holiday weekend across the Upstate to ensure boaters are up to code with all safety regulations. There are five main safety devices boaters should have on their boat. “Always have a wearable life jacket for everybody on board, including children, you know, all sizes, a type four throwable device, you have to have your registration in possession, a working fire extinguisher, make sure the needles in the green and a sound device,” said Department of Natural Resources spokesperson PFC Jonathan Willis.
