The long-awaited replacement of Kenosha County’s 60th Street outdoor warning siren took a leap forward this week.

The Public Works Committee on Monday unanimously approved a change to the lease agreement with the City of Kenosha that will allow the county to rebuild the siren on an easement at 6210 60th St. near Nash Park.

The county currently uses the easement for its emergency communications tower, according to Public Works Director Shelley Billingsley. The modification would accommodate the construction, management, operation and repair of the new structure. The county’s lease agreement with the city for the communication tower has been in place for more than a decade.

The siren, which was previously on city property at Fire Station No. 4, 4810 60th St., was dismantled when the fire station was replaced with a newer building constructed three years ago. Last year, the County Board approved $35,000 for the siren’s replacement …
