Kootenai County has new model to alert people during wildfires [Video]

KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — The Kootenai County Fire Chiefs Association unanimously voted to adopt the “Ready, Set, Go” model for wildfire evacuations in the county.

The fire association says the new model replaces the Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 system that was previously used for evacuation alerts in the county.

Here is a breakdown of what “Ready, Set, Go” means and what you would need to do if a wildfire prompts any of these responses from firefighters.

  • Ready: Prepare well in advance of emergencies by creating defensible space around your home, assembling an emergency supply kit, and establishing a family communication plan.
  • Set: Stay vigilant by monitoring fire and weather conditions closely. When authorities issue an evacuation warning (Set), residents should be prepared to evacuate at short notice.
