KY to receive federal disaster relief funding after tornadoes sweep through the Bluegrass [Video]

FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — The president has approved disaster relief for local recovery efforts across Kentucky after 19 tornadoes tore through the state on April 2 and 3.

The federal money was granted on Wednesday by President Biden to provide relief to Boyd, Carter, Fayette, Greenup, Henry, Jefferson, Jessamine, Oldham, Union, and Whitley counties, according to a news release.

The White House said the relief funds will be overseen by FEMA and coordinated to assist communities in building temporary housing, providing loans to cover uninsured property damage and loss, as well as programs to help local business owners recover from the disaster.

The funding came after a request from Gov. Andy Beshear in April, who announced in a news release on Wednesday that more Kentucky counties “could be added after additional damage assessments are completed.”
