Lincoln Police officer assaulted while trying to arrest vandalism suspect [Video]

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A Lincoln Police officer suffered minor injuries after being assaulted while trying to make an arrest.

LPD said officers attempted to contact 57-year-old Bradley Hester on Wednesday around 12:30 p.m. near 20th & D streets about a vandalism case.

According to police, the officer told Hester he was under arrest, but he resisted and swung a folding knife.

The officer avoided the strike but both fell to the ground. While on the ground, Hester continued to lunge towards the officer, police said. Eventually, the officer was able to stand up, back away and deployed his taser.

Hester was arrested and lodged in jail for:

  • Attempt 2nd Degree Assault on an Officer
  • Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony
  • 3rd Degree Assault on an Officer
  • Resisting Arrest Using a Deadly Weapon

LPD said the officer suffered minor injuries to his hand, elbow and knees.
