The disaster declaration is in response to the heavy rainfall and flooding the area has experienced since April 26.

According to the declaration, “there has been widespread damage to both private and public infrastructure” which prompted the decision from the county. In a letter to Gov. Greg Abbott, Judge Duncan also noted that electrical outages were also of a concern as a result of the aforementioned heavy rainfall and flooding.

The disaster declaration now activates the Limestone County Emergency management plan.

Unless renewed by the Limestone County Commissioner’s Court in one week, the disaster declaration will expire on May 22.
