Maine Maritime student honored for saving injured bald eagle | Local News [Video]

CASTINE — On April 13, Aidan Connelly was traveling along Interstate 295 past the West Gardiner Service Plaza when he saw something in the road you’d never expect: an injured bald eagle.

“It looked like a piece of trash, a trash bag had fallen out of the back of someone’s bed of a truck or something,” said Connelly.

Experts attending to the eagle’s injuries say the bird was hit by a car at a rate of 70 miles per hour.

Connelly says after finding out it was an eagle, he quickly pulled over and jumped into action to save the bird.

With the help of another passerby, they were able to get the eagle off the side of the road and transport it to Center for Wildlife in Cape Neddick.
