Man accused of first-degree manslaughter claims self-defense immunity, hearing set for August [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) – The man charged with first-degree manslaughter in the death of 30-year-old Acey Morrison made an appearance in court Monday afternoon.

53-year-old Gregory Landers is accused of first-degree manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Morrison in August of 2022 as well as ingestion of meth and possession of a firearm with a prior conviction.

Today in court the defense filed a motion to dismiss the manslaughter charge by claiming self-defense immunity.

They argued phone calls Landers made to police at the time of the incident as well as continuous phone calls throughout the investigation showed Landers only acted in self-defense. Judge Heidi Linngren set an immunity hearing for August 7.

If the defense is able to establish self-defense, it will then turn to the state to prove Landers does not meet those guidelines.

Lander is due back in court on July 25, with a trial set …
