Man killed in Lincoln County UTV crash [Video]

LINCOLN COUNTY, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – An 87-year-old man died in a side-by-side UTV crash near Harrisburg on Saturday.

The incident happened five miles northeast of Harrisburg around 2:10 p.m.

The Department of Public Safety reports that the driver of a 2013 Kawasaki Mule was traveling north on 480th Avenue from 273rd Street.

The road was closed at the time, and the east shoulder of the road had washed away.

“As the driver attempted to turn around, he went backward over the edge of the washout. The UTV began to roll and the driver was ejected. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene,” reports the Department of Public Safety.

The victim was not wearing a seatbelt or helmet.

The name of the person involved will not be released until family members have been notified.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
